Abstract

In the early phase of Fausto Romitelli’s creative journey the classical guitar played a significant role as evidenced by his 1984 work «Solare», composed when he was just 21 years old. Although Romitelli was not an advanced guitarist, the score of «Solare» reveals a deep practical knowledge of the fretboard. This paper highlights some unique constructive aspects of this composition and the peculiar role they play in Romitelli’s compositional approach to the classical guitar. The analysis proposed in the article offers an interpretation of the work that aims to explain the performative process underlying the composition.
